NCI Course Details

Over the course of 12 weeks, you will:

1. Compare and contrast the different approaches to the way in which technology can be used to enhance learning.
2. Analyse and contrast the affordances for learning and the possible constraints in various e-learning, virtual, mobile learning and blended learning settings.
3. Assess the quality of a learning environment using appropriate measures and criteria.
4. Use pedagogic design to create effective, inclusive artefacts with the appropriate use of learning technologies.
5. Critically evaluate standards and good practices in technology-based learning environments.

The programme provides a contextualised curriculum that meets the professional development needs of practitioners working across a variety of roles and contexts within the sector (such as an FET teacher, Learning development, Learning Designer, Learning Architect). It is an advanced level programme targeted at the practitioner who already has some basic experience of using simple digital technologies (such as Word, PowerPoint and internet applications). The programme will provide opportunities for the practitioner to critically reflect on and expand their digital practices in an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

Blended - Livestream with some directed e-learning activities.

The Certificate in Learning and Technology will lead to a special purpose award at Level 9 (10 ECTS credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications. Learners who successfully complete this course may opt to apply for the MA in Educational Practice.

Applicants holding an Honours Degree 2.2 (Level 8) in any discipline ideally with professional involvement in the facilitation of learning or training will be considered for the course. For applicants whose first language is not English, please note the English language entry requirements.

The college operates a Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) scheme, which means that applicants who do not meet the normal academic requirements may be considered based on relevant work or other relevant experience.

Applicants may be interviewed by the Programme Director or a member of the programme team.

Participants should have the ability to use ICT independently to find information, create and manage files, and communicate with others. For online sessions, participants will require administrator access to a personal computing device such as a laptop or desktop computer running Windows or MacOS (tablets are not appropriate) with a reliable internet connection of >1mbps, web browser software (i.e. internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari or Chrome), Flash Player, a headset with built-in microphone,and a webcam.

It is the responsibility of each student to ensure their computer is functioning correctly and that they have full administrator rights. NCI IT cannot provide support for these personal devices.

A Laptop Loan Scheme is available for eligible students to assist them in completing their chosen course.

This is an online programme.
